Meditaiton Practice

Meditation is not dullness

The general, typical misunderstanding is that all this meditation and self-enquiry means living life like a zombie with no enthusiasm or zest for life, that these things are only for old people who have no passion for lively activities.  These are misconceptions.

At any age, young or old, male or female, when we delve deep into ourselves, we are able to study our minds. We are able to see our weaknesses, bad habits and good qualities as well. We may not like some of it, but we have to immediately remember, “these are just in the mind created by the mind.  But I am not the mind. So ignore it.  It will go away. ” This process may not be as clear cut and well-defined while doing it, but somehow in our life we will notice the improvements because of this. Our relationship with others will be better and we will see things in the right perspective.

When we know ourselves better, we can adjust our minds and tune it to be more effective so that we can be in better control of ourselves and be cool.  We cannot control the results of actions, but we can control our outlook, attitudes and reactions to them.  We can learn how to deal with the turmoils of life skillfully.  We can become mentally strong so that nothing can shake us.  And this can be done only by taking the bull by its horns, by getting down to the nitty-gritty, by turning inward and investigating carefully,  just as Sherlock Holmes would do in a crime scene.  So how can this be lack of zest for life ?

Meditation or Self-Enquiry does not have an age or gender stipulation.  Anyone at any age who finds it interesting and useful can pursue it according to the instructions given by a Great Master. All one has to do is to just start doing it.  Ask yourself, “Who am I?” deeply within. See where the “I” feeling rises up within.  That’s it.  In this path, “Who am I?” is the only Mantra. Simple, isn’t it?
